PROJECT MANAGEMENT & RESEARCH
I am a project manager and researcher working with organizations, communities, artists, and individuals (mainly in the music, arts, and culture sectors) to lead and execute initiatives, from conception to realization, and to provide analysis that guides strategic development.
I currently work as the research manager at the Center for Music Ecosystems, where I am engaged in projects exploring the diversity of ways that music generates value and impacts communities.
In my recent roles as a researcher and business operations lead for Water & Music, I led multi-faceted initiatives including community-engaged research and research consulting projects (w/ clients including major PROs), resulting in the publication of an extensive body of fundamental work on the intersections of music & technology (AI; web3; metaverse).
This work relied on strong primary research and analysis skills, while also requiring solid leadership and organization, as we explored novel methodologies for opening the research process to community involvement, to produce expansive insights and outputs. To this end, I co-directed multiple research seasons, leading a globally decentralized team of community researchers in three-month sprint formats to produce research outputs.
At W&M, I was also responsible for guiding day-to-day business operations and organizational development initiatives, including establishing internal processes for financial management, forward planning, and regulatory compliance. As part of this work I also undertook research exploring options that would allow W&M to move towards an equitable community ownership structure (e.g. blockchain-enabled cooperative enterprises).
I have extensive on-the-ground experience working in the music industry and a robust understanding of its many components including rights and licensing, publishing, distribution, tour planning, PR and marketing, finances, granting and more. I spent several years working as an artist manager with Kelp Management, supporting the careers of multiple Canadian artists (Andy Shauf / Lido Pimienta / Ada Lea / Foxwarren), and was concurrently the Festival Manager for the MEGAPHONO Music Festival and Conference, which brought music industry professionals to Ottawa to provide opportunities for regional artists to expand their reach, cultivate new knowledge and catalyze export opportunities. I’m particularly proud of my work at MEGAPHONO, as it provided knowledge and access for underserved artists to better understand the music industry, grow their artistic practices, and develop their careers.
In the past, I also worked at the International Development Research Centre in the Technology & Innovation Program, where I was a project manager supporting research related to technology & development.
